The Ten 2012 Releases I Enjoyed the Most, Three of Which Were EPs.

December 9, 2012

I know that it’s my usual style to babble on and on for twelve pages until you stop reading, but really I don’t have anything to say about these other than that I enjoyed them a lot. These are not in that strict of an order – generally, I’m not that keen on “rating” records. That said, I enjoyed #1 the most.

  1. Kendrick Lamar – Good Kid / m.A.A.d City
  2. Rhye – Open EP
  3. Scott Walker – Bisch Bosch
  4. Bill Fay – Life is People
  5. Haim – Forever EP
  6. Tame Impala – Lonerism
  7. Frank Ocean – channel ORANGE
  8. Killer Mike – R.A.P. Music
  9. Hundred Visions – Last Cab From Tunis EP
  10. Nas – Life is Good

Some notes:

Sorry there are so many EPs on here, but it feels like the whole album form is in flux. Maybe it’s easier to knock 4 songs out of the park than to do the same for 10, but the fact is these EPs all knocked it out of the park for me.

Other new releases I really liked this year: Will Johnson – Scorpion; THEESatisfaction – awE naturalE; Daphni – Jiaolong; Flying Lotus – Until the Quiet Comes; Tomas Barfod – Salton Sea; Poliça – Give You the Ghost; Grizzly Bear – Shields; Dinosaur Jr. – I Bet On Sky; Cody Chesnutt – Landing On a Hundred; Field Report – Field Report; Lower Dens – Nootropics.
