The “Black Sheep Boy Anniversary Edition”

September 9, 2015

JAG280Over at the Secretly Distribution website you can now pre-order the Black Sheep Boy Anniversary Editon, a three-LP set that combines Okkervil River’s 2005 album Black Sheep Boy and its companion release Black Sheep Boy Appendix with a full album of traditional (and modern) covers that we recorded around the same time entitled There Swims a SwanThe whole release looks beautiful and, revisiting the material from There Swims a Swan, I was really happy with how it sounded and how it fits into everything – thematically it’s kind of a dry run at the “Black Sheep Boy” themes. There’s even a beautiful new William Schaff piece that depics an updated Black Sheep Boy character. And I wrote down my recollections of the time surrounding the making of all these recordings.

We’re going to be doing some East Coast shows playing Black Sheep Boy and the Black Sheep Boy Appendix in their entirety this November, and after that I’m going to do solo dates on the West Coast centered around both albums. Those dates are below:

Fri. Nov. 20 – Washington, DC @ Black Cat ^
Sat. Nov. 21 – New York, NY @ Bowery Ballroom ^
Tues. Nov. 24 – Cambridge, MA @ The Sinclair ^
Mon. Dec. 14 – Seattle, WA @ Columbia City Theater &
